Inspirational september

Hi there!

Fall is here, and with the colors of autumn and the shift in weather, it’s a month that always brings a flood of inspiration.

I have a love/hate relationship with September. I enjoy watching the trees turn yellow and the coziness of a warm fire, but it also signals the beginning of at least 9 months of gloomy weather (maybe more, maybe less). With that comes the “darkness”… Shorter days, and thick clouds hiding the sun. As someone who didn’t grow up with this, it feels quite sad.

Not every day is grey. Sometimes the sky surprises us with beautiful colors ❤️

Where I’m from, we face different weather struggles. We have scorching summers and sometimes extreme winters. Plus, there’s the plague of dengue mosquitoes, which I definitely don’t miss! But when it rains back home, it’s the perfect excuse to make torta frita (a type of fried pastry) and sip on warm mate (a traditional tea-like drink from South America). Unfortunately, the near-constant rain here in Belgium makes that cozy ritual lose its charm.

The lack of sunlight has been a real challenge for me, especially since I lived in Spain for 13 years before moving to Belgium. To cope, I bought a large lamp that mimics natural light, and honestly, it’s been a game changer!

Enough about the weather—this month has been full of inspiration! I’ve been drawing more, balancing work, getting products ready, fixing up the website, writing this blog, doing research, and taking some courses here and there. It’s been a lot, but I’m determined to keep going!

My biggest dream is to publish a children’s book that I’ve both written and illustrated. I’ve been working on it for nearly a year, and recently, I’ve started to notice the growth in my skills. It’s taken a lot of hard work, and breaking through creative blocks has been tough, but I’m finally seeing results.

Some sky sketches/ studies for my book.

This goal feels like a life’s project. I’m ready for the rejections, but I won’t give up. I’m so close to being able to share my imagination with the world.

Here’s a glimpse of my chaotic workstation! Even if it is messy, it's where all the magic happens.

In the meantime, I’m preparing products for upcoming markets. You can check out the flyer below for the next event happening here in Gent!

Another exciting event this month is Peachoctober, which has 31 creative prompts. I’m looking forward to participating, even if I don’t complete them all. I plan to keep it light and fun, choosing my medium based on the time I have each day. With a toddler at home, flexibility is key!

How have things been for you recently? I hope you’ve found some bright spots, whatever’s been going on.

P.S. Did you know that if you’re in Gent, you can spot some of my artwork around the city? For example, at GOYA cafe, where I painted a few walls and I still have some drawings displayed!

Peachtober is a chill, creative prompt list hosted by @furrylittlepeach

Mark your calendars for October 12th! I’ll be at the “Walk the Talk Fest,” selling my artworks and products at the market!

Location: Broei, Nieuwland 69, 9000 Gent
